Sun Valley Stables Exciting NEws

After a very long absence we will be visiting South Africa and Sun Valley Stables in June and July. I am looking forward to seeing many clients that I have not seen for many years and meeting new clients (some not so new! ) at Sun Valley Stables.

I will be visiting with my Husband, Terence, and our 4 children, Nicholas, Kelly, Peter and Daniel.

We are all very excited for the visit as we have missed family, friends, pets and Sun Valley Stables so much over the past three and a half years. We left South Africa in January 2020 for Sydney Australia and due to Covid and some passport issues had a very long delay in returning for a visit. We have settled well in Sydney and adapted to Ausie life – we have only lost electricity once in the past 3.5 years and only for 2 hours.

We have a riding school in the heart of Sydney, close to the beautiful Centennial Park. Managing a riding school in a big city had been a very different experience but we have learned to adjust and enjoy the city environment. We have our family horses at home and have experienced some shows, including Inter Schools competitions. While we have been away Kim has done a fantastic job of managing Sun Valley Stables through some challenging times. Supporting Kim and the Sun Valley team from a long distance has been a pleasure as they have always been super diligent and caring, always doing their best for clients and horses.

Kim has exciting news too; she is expecting a baby in August. We are all very excited for Kim and are looking forward to welcoming a new member to the Sun Valley family. Kim will be taking maternity leave for several weeks to get used to mommy duties and enjoy the special time with her new baby.

Shona is a wonderful coach, but she cannot manage alone so we are very fortunate to have a super new coach joining the Sun Valley team. Lee-charne is a young, but very experienced rider and a competent coach. Lee-charne has grown up in the equestrian world as her mother has a successful riding school in Welkom. Lee- Charne has had the opportunity to ride in both Inter-schools and SAEF competitions from a young age and has many achievements in the competition arena. She has coached children and juniors for several years and is looking forward to moving to Johannesburg and meeting all our Sun Valley riders and parents. Lee-charne will be full time at Sun valley Stables from 1 June.

The count down to 8 June has started, we are looking forward to landing in South Africa and not having to ration biltong and Bovril for a few weeks! We hope to see you at the stables, please come and say Hi, we would love to see you.

End-of-year pony camp recap

We had the most amazing end of year pony camp with everyone learning about
all the different disciplines gearing up to our 2023 show calendar as well as
learning how to plait a pony for shows, some spectacular outrides, swimming
in the sun and games such as Fly, Chase me Charlie and many more. At night
we thought it’s the perfect time to stalk the lantern and do what’s in the box
and some of the things we chose for What’s in the box was really hard to
describe without giving it away.

Championship Show

Whiles it was threatening to rain we got our Championship show in just in
time. We had such a good turn out and the riders had to work hard to win the ultimate Champion trophies. With some parent support and the teachers helping from the sidelines, it was a
fantastic way to end the year.

Valentines show

The Sun Valley Stables Valentines Show will be on Sunday 12th February. Our shows are a great way to spend a Family Sunday morning in the stable yard. All the classes are designed to be challenging yet still fun and rewarding.

All levels of riders are welcome to enter from Junior Jockeys to Advanced riders. There will be an open tuck shop which boasts the best bacon and egg rolls if you get hungry. Rosettes are given to the winners of each class. All riders will leave with at least one rosette.

If you wish to take part in this fun-filled morning please sign up in the office or via email or on our notice board.

The start time is 8 am and we aim to finish at 1 pm

The cost for this show is R420 for the riding school and R380 for Junior Jockeys

'Bring a friend' morning

We will be having a “bring a friend to Sun Valley Stables morning” Sunday 26th February 9 am to 12 pm.

Sun Valley Stables would like you to share your passion and skills with a friend whilst having a fantastic and fun time on a beautiful outride through our wonderful countryside.

All rides will be well supervised by leaders and
instructors to help your friends who do not know how to ride.

Activities for this morning:
We will start the Morning by teaching your friends to groom and tack up the horses and ponies and a lesson on how to ride. We will then all head out on an
outride, once we return we will untack and put our ponies in the field.

Cost:
As a pair the cost for both of you will be R450 or if you wish to come alone R250

Lease a pony - dates and info

We are excited to announce our new Saturday afternoon ‘ Lease a pony ‘ program.

Do you want to spend more time with your favourite pony/ horse? During this program, you are able to build a bond with the special pony you love.

On Saturday afternoon you will be able to care for and spend time with your favourite pony/ horse. You will be able to ride the pony/ horse in the arena while being supervised by a Sun Valley coach, this is not a lesson but a supervised self-ride. Care includes tidying the stable, feeding, grooming, tacking up, hosing and hand grazing.

Saturday afternoons 2 pm to 5 pm
Riding 1-hour self ride
Care and bonding time 2 hours
Cost of leasing a pony for the afternoon is R450

Who is eligible?

Current clients of Sun Valley Stables taking weekly lessons.
Must be 8 years and older
Must be competent to walk, trot and canter independently

Family outrides - dates and info

We will be offering family outrides on Sunday mornings. These rides are open
to the public so bring your friends and family and join us on Sunday mornings for a gentle fun outride.

Cost: R300 per person for an 1.5-hour ride with snacks & juice afterwards.

Family outrides will take place on Sunday mornings from 9 am to 11 am.

Who can ride?

Riders must be over the age of 8 yrs (younger children can be arranged)
Beginners are welcome.
Weight Limit is 85kg
